Below is a selection of my published writings and other journalsitic projects.
Articles
- "Silence on Rape in DRC Being Broken" was published in the Sunday Independent newspaper (South Africa) in March 2007. This article was written as a result of interviews I conducted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in January and February of 2007 for a documentary film entitled "Breaking the Silence" (working title) about the long-term consequences of sexual violence on Congolese society. The film is produced by Ilse and Femke van Velzen of the Amsterdam-based film production company IF Productions.
- "Promoting Durable Change in Africa" was published in the Summer 2001 edition of Open Society News. This article was written while I was OSI representative for Africa during which time I established the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa and the Dakar-office of the Open Society Initiative for West Africa and managed grant-giving programmes.
- "Welcome to Zaire, Now Go Home" published in the Fall 1995 editon of Slant, a magazine of the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs. The article resulted from research I conducted in the summer of 1995 on inter-ethnic conflict in North Kivu Province which was made possible by a grant from Columbia University's Human Rights Programme. The research was conducted for the Washington D.C.-based Global Rights, formerly the International Human Rights Law Group, and the Ligue des Droits de la Personne de la R�gion des Grands Lacs.
- "Miami Murder Mystery: How three Haitian Radio Hosts were Silenced" was published in the March/April 1994 edition of Colombia Journalism Review.
- "Journalists' Struggle Continues in Haiti" was published in the June 6, 1992 edition of the San FranciscoChronicle. The article is based on a mission I led to Haiti in May of that same year for the Committee to Protect Journalists.
- "Embattled Autocrats Attempt to Keep Media in Check" was published in a special edition newsletter in honor of the Committee to Protect Journalists' 10-year anniversary. I was CPJ's research associate on Africa and Haiti at the time.

- I wrote "Tunisia's Media Landscape" report (2004) as a result of a mission to Tunisia I conducted to identify options for support for the Copenhagen-based International Media Support.
Books
I served as chief editor and co-wrote "Evaluating Capacity development: Experiences from research and development organisations around the world" published by the International Service for National Agricultural Research (The Netherlands), the International Development Research Centre (Canada) and the ACP-EU Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (The Netherlands).
Radio
"The Give and Take of Foreign Aid" is a radio programme I produced for Radio Netherlands during a three month sabbatical from the Open Society Institute in 2001.
Film
"Breaking the Silence" (2007) a documentary film by IF Productions about the consequences of sexual violence resulting from the war on Congolese society. I served as researcher, interviewer, translator and coordinator for the project. The film is scheduled for release in September 2007.
